How Route Types Work

IEPL dedicated lines, relay routes, and direct routes describe the approximate path from your local connection to the exit location. The route type alone does not determine speed; actual performance is also affected by your local carrier, the target service region, and the time of use.

IEPL

IEPL Dedicated Line

An IEPL dedicated line places most cross-border traffic on a managed link, reducing unpredictable path changes on the public network. Its value is controllable routing—not proving line quality with a single speed test. For sustained transfers, video meetings, long-form streaming, and workplace systems that need stable sessions, an IEPL line is usually worth testing first.

These routes generally cost more to provision and maintain than ordinary public-network paths, making them suitable for tasks that require continuity. Still, choose an exit region close to the target service: test Japan routes for services in Japan and North American exits for North American systems. A shorter distance is not automatically the best fit for every use case.

RELAY

Relay Route

A relay route sends the connection to an intermediate access point before reaching the target exit.
